A Dreamy West Michigan Senior Session Full of Soft Florals, Sand Dunes & Golden Light

There are some senior sessions that just feel like summer from beginning to end — soft light, flowing dresses, warm air, glowing skin, and locations that feel straight out of a movie.

Stella’s senior session was exactly that.

From the moment we started planning, we knew we wanted her photos to feel feminine, timeless, and a little whimsical while still keeping everything natural and true to her personality. Every outfit, location, and little detail came together so perfectly and created such a dreamy mix of editorial and candid moments.

One of my favorite things about senior sessions is getting to create something that feels unique to each person, and Stella brought such an effortless confidence and calm energy to every part of this shoot.

Garden Senior Photos with White Hydrangeas

We started the session surrounded by huge white hydrangeas and soft greenery, and honestly… it felt like something out of a fairytale.

Her white eyelet dresses paired perfectly with the garden setting and gave the entire beginning of the session such a soft, romantic feel. The light filtering through the trees mixed with all the florals created the prettiest glow and made everything feel airy and timeless.

These are the kinds of locations I love for senior photos because they photograph beautifully while still feeling natural and relaxed. Nothing overly posed or stiff — just movement, texture, light, and moments that feel real.

Stella absolutely looked like she belonged in a magazine.

Wildflower Field Senior Photos in West Michigan

After the garden portion of the session, we moved into an open field filled with wildflowers and tall grasses, and it completely changed the vibe in the best way.

Her flowing pink dress added so much movement to the photos and photographed beautifully in the wind and golden light. Some of my favorite images from the entire session came from this part of the evening because everything felt so free and effortless.

This is one of the reasons I always encourage seniors to bring at least one outfit that feels a little elevated or flowy. Dresses like this photograph so beautifully in nature and create so much natural movement without trying too hard.

The combination of soft pink tones, wildflowers, and warm summer light gave these photos such a dreamy, whimsical feel while still keeping everything elegant and timeless.

Beach & Sand Dune Senior Pictures at Golden Hour

To finish the session, we headed to the beach for golden hour — and the light could not have been more perfect.

The soft sand dunes, lake breeze, and warm sunset tones gave the final part of Stella’s session such a cinematic feel. Her teal statement top added the perfect pop of color against the neutral sand and sky, while still fitting the overall soft, editorial vibe of the session.

I love ending sessions at the beach because everything naturally slows down there. The movement of the water, the wind in your hair, the warmth of sunset — it always creates such genuine, relaxed moments.

And honestly, West Michigan beaches just hit differently in the summer.

Why I Love Creating Senior Sessions That Feel Personal

One of the biggest things I want for every senior session is for it to actually feel like you.

Not overly trendy. Not awkward. Not stiff poses that don’t feel natural.

But photos that capture personality, confidence, emotion, movement, and this season of life in a way that still feels timeless years from now.

Stella’s session was the perfect example of that balance. It felt soft and editorial while still feeling relaxed, natural, and genuinely her.
