Abby & Gabie’s Downtown Rooftop Engagement Session

Some sessions just feel easy from the very first frame. Abby and Gabie are dear friends of mine, and photographing their engagement in downtown Grand Rapids felt exactly like them—laid-back, a little glam, and full of those quiet, in-between moments I love to chase.

We kept things simple: golden light, a breezy rooftop, and a slow walk through the city. Instead of stiff posing, we leaned into connection—hand squeezes, forehead touches, whispered jokes. When an engagement session feels like a date (not a business meeting), that’s when the magic shows up. They forgot about the camera and fell into each other; I just documented what was already there.

For couples planning a session

  • Treat it like date night. Eat beforehand, bring a jacket, and plan something fun after.
  • Choose clothes you can move in. If you can’t sit, hug, or twirl comfortably, it’ll show.
  • Keep your hands busy—hold each other, fix a collar, tuck hair behind an ear. Little gestures photograph beautifully.

Abby & Gabie, I adore you both. Thank you for trusting me with this chapter. I can’t wait for everything ahead. 🤍
